In order to listen we must be attentive to what matters.
We must slow down. Get off the unconscious train and recognize our pain, so that we can let it go.
From the movie Shutter Island:
Dr. Jeremiah Naehring: Did you know that the word 'trauma' comes from the Greek for 'wound'? Hm? And what is the German word for 'dream'? Traum. Ein Traum. Wounds can create monsters, and you, you are wounded, Marshal. And wouldn't you agree, when you see a monster, you... you must stop it?
Teddy Daniels: Yeah... I agree.
To stop the monsters, to end the cycle of pain, to heal trauma we must be present with ourselves.
Loving with ourselves.
Patient with ourselves.
And we must learn to see with the eyes of wisdom - to go to the root of things. To live from the perspective of the healed heart and mind.
The problem and the solution cannot co-exist in the same state.
We cannot expect to dwell on the pain and get to relief.
We must dwell on what brings liberation from the cause of the pain.
We must see with the eyes of who our happy healed heart proclaims.
We must fix our attention there and only there.
This is the application of vision.
This is wisdom.
It is the foundation of emotional intelligence.
